The history of Stimune …

08/10/2009

Alain Guyonvarc’h, Director of NEOVIA R&D, tells the story of STIMUNE

STIMUNE was born from a simple question: is it possible, by means of feed, to improve sow colostrum and milk functional properties that can be transferred to piglets ?
A review of different components able to pass from feed to colostrum and milk, without being impaired, lead us to focus on some types of fatty acids, on which a team of the University of Rennes (France) was working. They had published interesting preliminary studies on piglet immune status.
NEOVIA research scientists rapidly grasped the interest of this innovation for pig production.
With a collaboration agreement with University researchers, complementary studies, first in the experimental station with sows and rabbits, then at pig breeders, allowed us to validate these preliminary studies, checking that immune stimulation created by Stimune led to the raising of piglets immun oglobulin rates, while high level were kept at the colostral stage..
This result leads to the increase of the number of piglets weaned. It justifies the use of Stimune as far as economy is concerned.
Stimune is patented in numerous countries, in which Neovia has exclusive rights.
